University Park

University Park boasts itself as a small but diverse community in Prince George’s County in Maryland. The town, though small, with a total land area of only 1.29 square kilometers, still offers its residents urban convenience.

The town traces its history in mid-1700s on a Deakins family-owned land which was developed to become the community that it is today. Most of the early settlers were attracted to the high elevation and lush vegetation. By 1936, it was incorporated and since then, developments and expansions become a continuous process.

University Park gives high importance to education. Served by the public school systems of Prince George’s County, it has an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. Proximity of the town to other neighboring schools also gives residents the option to enrol in them.

Aside from the government-maintained recreational facilities, there are privately-owned establishments which also add spice and color to the town’s urban life. There are a handful of convenience stores, cafes and food hubs, spa and fitness centers where residents obtain their own doses of needs, gastronomic delights, and wellness treats.

Anchored on the town’s well-managed premises, it is undoubtedly one of the best places to live in Prince George’s County as cited by the Washingtonian Magazine. Many of the residents in the present-time are working professionals attracted by the work opportunities in the nearby University of Maryland.

To this date, developments are brewing up to make the town more desirable for living. To better accommodate would-be residents, construction of 119 townhomes in Rhode Island Avenue and 4th Street. Residents and visitors can also expect to see the first public artwork installed in Gateway Park.
